2010 Tournament Two
The 1st event of the 2nd tournament in the Super8Series started on March 8th, Simon Skelton claimed the points beating into 2nd spot Richie Morgan along with Jamie Chestney and Mervyn King bringing up the rear.
Mar 9th : After finishing 2nd in his two events in the 1st tournament David Gourlay made amends by winning here, beating John Price in the days final, Chris Young and Simon Stevens picked up the consolation points.
Mar 15th : Mark Royal qualified for the days final with wins over Danny Brown & Jonathan Ross and the game against Graham Smith went to the tie break which Mark won. Mark met Graham Smith who won on a tie break against Jonathan Ross in the final group match of the day. Graham Smith was not troubled at all in the first set with a convincing 9-3 win, In the 2nd set though he took an early lead, a fightback by Mark Royal fizzled out and Graham went on to win 6-5 and take the points for the day. 3rd spot went to Jonathan Ross.
Mar 16th : Kevin Carrie was on the green first against Nicky Brett and must of thought what a start to the day losing in the 1st set 13-1, he improved in the 2nd set winning 5 shots to 4 and then went on to win the tie break, his 2nd game saw him take both sets against Billy Jackson and his final league game was against Greg Harlow after being all square in the 1st leg Kevin beat Greg in the 2nd to qualify for the days final.
Nicky Brett recovered from losing the 1st game by winning both his other games in 2 straight sets to meet up with Kevin Carrie in the final. Kevin won this 9-5, 7-5 to grab maximum points for the day. Greg who beat Billy Jackson in a tie break got the 3rd spot.
Mar 22nd : Despite losing in his last league match in the day Richie Morgan still managed to reach the final where he met Mervyn King, only two sets were needed in the final as Richie won 6-3 6-5 to take the honours for the day, in 3rd spot was Simon Stevens and Jonathan Ross bringing up the rear.
Mar 23rd : The day started with Danny Brown playing Nicholas Brett and Danny won the 1st set 7-5, Nicky Brett stormed away in the 2nd to win 10-1 so it was down to a tie break which Nicky won 2-1. Next up was Billy Jackson who played David Gourlay. Billy won the 1st set 5-2 but David came back in the 2nd to win 7-6 and again a tie-break which David won. Game 3 is the two losers playing each other. Billy Jackson won the 1st set 8-4, but Danny came back in the 2nd set and won 8-3 and he continued his form by winning the tie break 2-0. Despite losing the 1st set Nicholas Brett beat David Gourlay in yet another tie break. Gourlay brushed aside Danny Brown in two straight sets 8-3 7-3. In a interesting final league match of the day saw Nicky Brett and Billy Jackson draw on the 1st set 7-7 then in the in the 2nd set draw 4-4, to go to another tie break in which Nicky won 2-1, so with the league system over for the day in 4th spot was Billy Jackson, 3rd spot went to Danny Brown. For the final Bwin, had Nicky Brett as the 1/2 favourite and David Gourlay priced at 7/5. And that proved correct in the 1st set with Nicky winning 8-2. Things never started off right for David in the 2nd set when on holding 3 and playing to draw in a 4th shot hit one of Nicky’s short bowls into shot. David took the lead on the 5th end leading 3-2, but Nicky scored a one on the 6th end. And with a one on the final end it was a win for Nicky Brett.
Mar 29th : Well we are now in to the last two days of Tournament two and action kicked for the day at 8am, and for those not watching it LIVE on Bwin, Graham Smith won the first game in a tie break, he comfortably won the 1st set 9-1 but Chris Young fought back in the 2nd to take it to tie break which Graham won 2-1. In game 2 Simon Skelto took 44 minutes to brush aside Greg Harlow in two straight sets 8-3, 9-1, and he followed that up with another 44 minute game as Simon beat Chris Young 9-0, 9-5. Game 4 saw Graham Smith go down to Greg Harlow in the first set 12-2 but he bounced back to take the second 8-2, but Greg held on to win the tie break 2-1. Greg continued in fine fettle with a straights sets win over Chris Young 10-3, 6-2. The final match in the league section for the day saw Simon Skelton take the 1st set against Graham Smith 6-5. In the 2nd set it was another win for Simon to top the league, Graham Smith finished 3rd (4 points) and Chris Young 4th (2 points). Greg stormed through the 1st set clocking up 13 shots to nil against Simon. And it took until the 4th end of the 2nd set for Simon to clock up his 1st shot of the final with Greg leading 7-1. Simon then went on to win the last 3 ends but failed to pass the 7 scored by Greg who was the days winner and collecting the 8 points on offer.
Mar 30th : Jamie Chestney started the day off playing against John Price and in a close encounter took the 1st set 5-4, John replied with a 7-4 2nd set but faltered in the tie-break losing 2-0. Les Gillett won the 1st set in game 2 but lost to Mark Royal in set 2, Les regained the upper hand in the tie-break 2-1. Match 3 was all one way traffic for Jamie Chestney as he won in 2 straight sets 14-1, 12-1. John Price quickly dispatched Mark Royal 7-4, 7-3 to win in game 4. Mark bounced back beating Jamie Chestney 9-8, 7-6. In the final game of the mini-league with both players still able to qualify for the days final against Jamie Chestney Les Gillett beat John Price 1.5 to .5,John finished in 3rd place and Mark Royal in 4th. In the final the 1st set was close with Jamie Chestney just edging out Les Gillett 7-5. With 2 ends to go in the 2nd set Jamie was leading 6-3 but Les scored a 3 to tie the game with one end to go, but Jamie held his nerve to take a single on the final end and win 2 sets to nil.
