May 17th :  Simon Skelton looking to consolidate his position at the top began in fine form taking two sets to beat Richard Morgan 7-6, 6-4. David Gourlay who is tied for third place, now faced Billy Jackson and soon won in two straight sets 4-3, 10-4. Game three was also a two straights win this time it was Richard Morgan who beat Billy Jackson 8-3, 7-3. David Gourlay dispatched Simon Skelton 9-3, 6-4 to take game 4. David Gourlay didn’t have it all his own way in the follow up game against Richard Morgan after a tied 1st end 5-5 , it was Richard that the 2nd set 7-2. The last match of the league saw Billy Jackson who has not won a set today against Simon Skelton, and it was a shock on the cards as Billy Jackson won in 2 straight sets, 6-5, 9-6. This wasn’t enough for Billy Jackson to avoid the wooden spoon and Simon Skelton only came 3rd. In the final Richard Morgan won the 1st set 7-1, and follwed up in set 2 with a 5-4 win and to collect the 8 points for the day.

Tuesday 18 May : Well we went through yesterday without one tie break and today has started off where we left off, Robert Paxton beat John Price in the 1st set 9-2 and John only managed to share the spoils in set 2 with a 5-5 tie. Les Gillett lost the 1st set against Greg Harlow 3-7, who is looking for a good result today to regain top spot, but Greg failed to capitalise and in the 2nd set went down 7-5 as Les Gillett fought back to win and go into a tie-break, it was Les that was victorious with a 2-0 win. Robert Paxton after being victorious in game 1 continued his fine show of form as he beat Les Gillett in two straight sets, 10-2, 6-4. Greg Harlow started off his game against John Price with a 8-5 win, but John pulled back to take the 2nd set and force the match to a tie-break. But Greg fought back to take the tie-break 2-1. Greg was back on straight away, his opponent Robert Paxton. Robert won the 1st set 5-4, but Greg fought back again to win set 2,8-5 and then the tie-break 2-1. So on to the last league match for the day in a closely fought 1st leg Les Gillett just edged out John Price 5-4,  but John stormed away with the 2nd leg 10-2 only to follow up in the tie break with a 2-1 to Les. In the final Greg Harlow managed to scrape past Robert Paxton in set 1 8-5 and set 2 was another close one but again Greg edged out Robert 5-4. 3rd spot went to Les Gillett with John Price in 4th spot.

Monday 24 May :  Jonathan Ross against Chris Young started the proceedings for the day and it took just over the hour to complete having won the 1st set 6-4, Jonathan Ross lost in the 2nd set 7-2 but bounced back 2-0 in the tie-break. Ian Bond dropped the 1st set losing 7-5 to Mark Royal but bounced back to not just take the 2nd set 9-2 but also the tie-break 2-0. Ian Bond was straight back on against Chris Young and had no problems winning 11-3, 5-4. Jonathan Ross followed up his earlier success with another this time against Mark Royal in two straight sets, 8-5, 11-2. Mark was back on and won set one 10-3 against Chris Young and avoided a tie break with a 10-1 win in set 2. It what will be the final, but this is the league match, Jonathan Ross beat Ian Bond in set one 10-6. Ian Bond fought back to take set 2 6-4 and the tie-break 2-0.  After the completion of the league Chris Young receives 2 points and Mark Royal 4 points. In the final Jonathan Ross won the first set against Ian Bond 8-1, but like in the league match Ian came back in the 2nd set to win 9-1 to force the final in to a tie break, which he won 2-0.

Tuesday 25 May : Danny Brown started off against Graham Smith by losing set one 6-3, he then won the 2nd set 7-4 and in a tight tie-break managed to win 2-1. Jamie Chestney came back from losing the 1st set 13-2 to beat Robert Weale in set 2 6-4 and then the tie break 2-0. Robert came straight back on and narrowly lost 5-4 to Danny Brown and the players shared set 2 5-5. Game 4 also went to a tie break after Jamie Chestney beat Graham Smith 7-3, then Graham won 11-3 but his momentum never continued as Jamie won the tie-break 2-0. Jamie had to contest his third tie break of the day in the match against Danny Brown having won set one 7-6 he lost set two 9-6 but managed to win the tie break 2-0. In the final league match Robert Weale beat Graham Smith after a tie-break 8-3, 3-7 and 2-1 in the tie break, this result means that Robert finished 3rd and Graham Smith in 4th spot. In the final Jamie won the first set 6-4 and romped away with the second 9-4 to collect the 8pts for the day.

Monday 7 June : With the grand final nearing the competition continues  with Chris Young going down by 2-1 on the tie-break against Danny Brown, Danny won the 1st set 9-2 but went down in set two 8-6. In game two Nicholas Brett won in two straight sets against  Les Gillett 8-7, 5-3. Nicky Brett was back on this time against Danny Brown and this went to a tie-break, Danny won set One 8-5 with Nicky winning set two 10-3 and the tie-break 2-1. Despite losing set one 8-1 Chris Young fought back against Les Gillett to win the second set 7-4 and the tie-break 2-0. Les in his next game lost the 1st set against Danny Brown  6-5 but won set two 9-3 but didn’t continue the momentum by losing the tie-break 2-1. In the final game of the league Chris Young won set one (8-4) but lost set two (3-7) and the tie-break (1-2) against Nicky Brett. With the league completed Les Gillett finished fourth with Chris Young in 3rd. The final Danny Brown won set one 8-4 against Nicky Brett, it was a close encounter in set two with Nicky edging out the 5-4 winner, but Danny Brown came back in the tie-break to win 2-0.

Tuesday 8 June : Robert Paxton had a bad start against Jonathan Ross going down 10 shots to one, but composed himself to take the 2nd set 9-4 and then the tie-break 2-1. Greg Harlow won the 1st set against Billy Jackson 7-3 and the second set 6-3. Robert Paxton won set one 6-3 Billy Jackson. Billy fought back in set two to take it 9-4 and force the game into a tie-break, which Robert won 2-0. After a tied first set Jonathan Ross managed to beat Greg Harlow in the 2nd set 11-8. Greg form was still below par as he followed by going down 2 sets to nil against Robert Paxton 8-5, 8-2. The final league match of the day went the way of Jonathan Ross who beat Billy Jackson 2-0 on the tie break Jonathan won the 1st set 5-4 but lost set 2 8-4. This lose meant that Billy Jackson finished only 4th with Greg in third spot, but Greg has qualified for the Champions of Champions already. In the final Robert Paxton scrapped through set one with a 5-4 victory, but Jonathan Ross stormed back in set two with a 11-0 scoreline to force the final to a tie-break, which he went on to win 2-1.

Monday 14 June : Simon Skelton kicked off the day’s event against Robert Weale and the game went to a tie break after Simon won the 1st set 6-2.Robert replied with a 7-2 win only for Simon to win 2-0 in the 3rd and deciding set. Simon was back on for game 2 his opponent this time was Richard Morgan, this game also went to a tie-break, Simon won the first set 7-5 with Richard winning set two 11-6, but Simon like the previous match won the 3rd set 2-0. Game 3 saw Robert Weale win in two straight sets 9-4, 7-4 against Mark Royal. Robert stayed on the green to play against Richard Morgan and this game went to the tie-break, Robert won set one 6-5 and went down 7-4 in the 2nd set, but managed to win the tie break 2-1. The match with Simon Skelton and Mark Royal produced a tied 1st end of 7-7 and a tie break set was avoided when Mark won the second set 9-3. The final league match of the day went to Mark Royal in two straight sets who beat Richard Morgan 10-2, 9-4. Richard Morgan finished fourth for the day with Simon Skelton in 3rd place. So it is Mark Royal against Robert Weale in the final in which Robert won the closely fought 1st set 5-4. Robert kept his chances of qualifying for next weeks champion of champions alive by taking set two 9-5, and the tie-break 2-1.

Tuesday 15 June : The last of leagues before next weeks Champion of Champions started with Graham Smith losing to John Price, John won the 1st set 7-6 and it was a tie in the 2nd set 6-6. David Gourlay who needs to get into the last two today to qualify for next week started in fine form brushing aside Ian Bond 9-5, 11-5. Graham Smith came out on top against Ian Bond with a two straight sets win 9-3, 8-5. David Gourlay enhanced his chances for next weeks final with a second win of the day with a two straight sets win of  5-2, 9-7 victory over John Price. David completed his fixtures in the league with a win against Graham Smith 9-4, 9-9. Ian Bond signed off with a two straight sets win over John Price  8-4, 6-4. In the day’s final David Gourlay meant business as he beat Graham Smith 10-2 in the first set and then 7-4 in the 2nd set.
